An extraction pit of between medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1950 onwards, at Westhayes Farm. The earthwork is elongated in shape, measures approximately 56m in length by 18m in width and abuts a road along its eastern edge. Several gravel pits are depicted within the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, so it is conceivable this extraction pit was similarly exploited for such. It remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014.
