A possible former field boundary of probable medieval to post-medieval date was visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards as an earthwork bank on the north and east-facing slopes overlooking Hawley Bottom, Dalwood parish.
The earthwork bank was curvilinear in plan, measuring approximately 5 to 6 metres wide and crossing the slopes for circa 160 metres. The earthwork did not correspond with any former boundary depicted on either the Tithe Map for Dalwood or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. This might support the interpretation that the earthwork was removed prior to the 1840s. The curvilinear bank remained visible as a low earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data of 1998 to 2014.
