An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1989 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, to the northeast of Westown Farm. The earthwork is sub-oval in shape and measures approximately 34m in length by 23m in width. The location of the extraction pit is depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, the orchard likely being established here following the dis-use of the pit. It remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from Lidar data captured between 1998-2014.
