The remains of ridges, probably made for tree planting or improved drainage from the post-medieval period to 20th century were visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s as low and narrow parallel earthwork banks to the north of Stadbury Lane on the east-facing slopes overlooking Holmsleigh Green, Cotleigh parish.
The banks extended over an area of approximately 0.5 hectares and were spaced up to approximately 7 metres apart. They did not correspond with an area depicted as an orchard on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, but the plot in which they are sited (plot 139) was listed on the Tithe Apportionments for Cotleigh as Old Orchard for West Homesley. The banks are therefore interpreted as ridges made for fruit tree planting and improved orchard drainage for an orchard that was cleared prior to circa 1880-1890.
No evidence of the banks could be seen on digital images derived from lidar data acquired in 2016, and they have probably been levelled.
