Two probable former quarry pits of possible medieval to 19th century date were visible on digital images derived from lidar data as earthworks on the south-west facing slopes on the Umborne Brook Combe, west of Peaty Moor and south of Mansfield Farm, Dalwood Parish.
The earthworks were visible as shallow negative earthworks that corresponded with areas of rough ground depicted on the Tithe Map for Dalwood. This might support the interpretation that the pits had passed out of use prior to the 1840s. The northernmost of the two pits was not shown on the OS First Edition map and might therefore have been levelled by the end of the 19th century; it is certainly less well defined an earthwork on the lidar imagery. The extent of the southern, less regularly shaped pit continues to be partially defined on the current OS MasterMap base map and appears to be rough ground on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
