A roughly circular and apparently flat topped mound approximately 20 metres in diameter was visible on digital images derived from lidar data as an earthwork near the summit of a south-east facing spur within Ford Plantation, approximately 150 metres south-west of Lamb Farm, Dalwood parish. The mound was situated within Ford Plantation, the eastern boundary of the woodland diverting to enclose the mound. This diversion in the plantation boundary was depicted on maps from the Tithe map for Dalwood onwards, and the mound therefore predates the mid-19th century as a landscape feature. A possible external ditch up to 3 metres wide can be seen on the western edge of the mound, within the woodland; a continuation of the ditch on the eastern edge might have been obscured and damaged by the woodland boundary. It is possible that the mound might have also extended slightly into the field to the east and been damaged or spread by agricultural activity. It is possible that the mound is the remains of a spoil heap associated with a former extractive pit immediately to the east, but it is tentatively interpreted as evidence of a
possible round barrow of Bronze Age date. The flattened profile of the mound might have been caused by partial levelling for plantation tree planting.
