The earthwork did not correspond with any depicted boundary.

This area was probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields

A probable former field boundary was visible on digital images derived from lidar data as a low curvilinear earthwork bank on the south and east facing combe slopes south of Ridge Farm, Stockland parish. The bank fell within a field system that had been characterised as probably based on strip fields of medieval origin. The relict bank, circa 6 metres wide and 90 metres long, did not correspond with any boundary depicted on the Tithe map for Stockland, and was therefore probably a medieval field boundary that had been removed prior to the 1840s.
