An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the northeast of Highfields, Culmstock. The earthwork is irregular in shape, measures approximately 90m in length by 48m in width and is located in close proximity to a clay pit depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, as well as other similar earthwork pits recorded during this survey. It abuts a road along its northern edge, with the field boundary along its western edge representing a later remodelling. The extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1989.
