An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1989 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, at Pitt Farm, Culmstock. The earthwork is sub-oval in shape, measures approximately 42m in length by 31m in width and is located in close proximity to a clay pit depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, as well as other similar earthwork pits recorded during this survey. The site of the extraction pit is depicted as a copse on the First Edition OS map, which was likely established following the abandonment of the extraction pit. It remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014.
