Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1971 at Pithayne Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show the orchard to be largely covered with fruit trees, although by 1971 these have been completely cleared, leaving a series of linear northeast to southwest aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These earthworks occupy an area of approximately 0.11 hectares of gentle southeast facing slope, within the northern extent of the former orchard. An extraction pit (MDV115755) is visible as an earthwork pit within the remainder of the orchard, the orchard likely being established within the pit following its dis-use. The orchard banks are not clearly visible on aerial photographs or digital images after 1971 and their survival is uncertain.
