Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards at Burley Hayes Linhay. An orchard is depicted here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of between the 1880’s-90’s, although by 1947, aerial photographs show that the orchard trees have been partly cleared, leaving a series of linear northwest to southeast aligned earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, visible. These earthworks occupy an area of approximately 0.29 hectares of gentle to moderate southeast facing slope, within a single irregular shaped plot. The orchard banks remain visible on digital images of 2002.
