An extraction pit of between post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, to the southeast of Culm Davy House. The earthwork is elongated in shape and measures approximately 90m in length by 40m in width. The site of the extraction pit is depicted as an orchard on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map, with the orchard likely being established within the pit sometime after its disuse. This association of extraction pit later utilised as an orchard has been a common theme throughout this survey. The earthwork is also located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded, including several ‘Old quarries’ depicted on the First Edition OS map. It remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014.
