Extraction pits of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1971 and digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998-2014, to the north of Millhayes. The five earthworks vary in shape from oval, to semi-circular to irregular and are situated in a linear east to west aligned arrangement on moderate south facing slope. They measure between 48m to 77m in length and are located in an area where a number of similar such features have been recorded as part of this survey.
