A former field boundary of potential medieval date is visible as an earthwork bank on aerial photographs of 1971, to the southeast of Lower Ashculm. The slight curvilinear northeast to southwest aligned earthwork closely respects the historic field boundaries here, although appears to have passed out of use by the time of the Parish Tithe map of approximately 1838-48. It is located in an area recorded as ‘Medieval enclosures based on strip fields’ during the Historic Landscape Characterisation project. The former boundary is faintly visible on aerial photographs of 1947 and remains visible on digital images captured in 2006, although it is unclear whether it survives as an earthwork or is visible as a cropmark.
