A field boundary of probable medieval origin was visible as a low earthwork bank on digital images derived from lidar data, on the east-facing slopes below Stockland Little Camp, Stockland parish.
The bank did not correspond with a boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland but did appear to abut a former boundary to the east that was, and that remained extant until the 1940s. Once removed, this second former boundary, centred on circa ST231036, was visible as a similar earthwork contagious with the relict boundary, supporting the interpretation of the relict bank as a former boundary, and has therefore been transcribed and recorded with it.
The relict banks fell within a field enclosure pattern characterised as being of medieval origin and are interpreted as medieval field boundaries that were removed, in part, prior to the 1840s.
