The visible earthworks do not correspond with any depicted boundary.

The former boundary was just discernible as a slight earthwork.

This area was probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields.

A former field boundary probably was visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data as a curvilinear earthwork bank roughly 2.5 metres wide, flanked by slightly narrower ditches, on the south-east facing slopes to the south-east of Stockland village. The earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland and had therefore passed out of use prior to the 1840s. The curvilinear nature of the earthwork and its situation within a field system that has been characterised as being based on strip fields might support an interpretation of a medieval origin.
