A small pit, probably a former extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century date, was visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data as an earthwork on the north-west facing slopes to the south of Rakehill Farm, Stockland parish.
The earthwork did not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Tithe Map for Stockland or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map; the plot in which the pit was located was depicted as a woodland and listed on the Tithe Apportionments as Old Orchard Coppice, probably referencing the plot 470 (Old Orchard) immediately to the north-west. The extractive use of the pit had therefore probably ceased some time prior to the 1840s.
