Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Mountshayne Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchard remains partly covered with fruit trees, although by 1989 these have all been cleared. The earthwork banks are not, however, clearly visible and were only seen on lidar images. These earthwork banks, on which the fruit trees were established, are northwest to southeast aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.18 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope, within a single irregular shaped plot.
