A possible marl pit of between post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the south of Hackpen Cross Way. The earthwork is sub-oval in shape and measures approximately 46m in length by 23m in width. Marl pits are depicted in close proximity here, suggesting this earthwork was also likely utilised for such. The possible marl pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
