Summary

A probable extractive pit is visible as an earthwork on images derived from lidar data flown between 1998 and 2014. The adjacent field boundary seems to respect it and it could be of medieval origin.

An earthwork pit measuring circa 19 by 23 metres is visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. It is likely to be an extraction pit, although it is not clear in this instance what material was being extracted. It is not depicted on the available historic mapping, but the adjacent curvilinear field boundary in and area characterised as medieval enclosures seems to respect the pit, so it is possible that extraction occurred in the medieval period. Its relationship with the field boundary or trackway to the north (MDV115819) is not clear from the available imagery, but the pit may truncate the linear feature.
