Two earthwork pits measuring circa 26-28 by 17-18 metres are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. They are located just to the south of an area marked as ‘old quarry’ on the first edition OS map (MDV47911), and may have resulted from an earlier phase of extraction, perhaps for chalk or limestone given the proximity of limekiln MDV113262. The adjacent curvilinear field boundary in an area characterised as medieval enclosures seems to respect the pit, so it is possible that extraction occurred in the medieval period.
