Possible tree-planting banks of former post-medieval to 19th century orchards are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1989 and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Upper Hayne Farm. Orchards are depicted here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of between the 1880’s-90’s. Aerial photographs of 1947 show that the orchards remain largely covered with fruit trees, although by 1989, these have been largely cleared, leaving faint traces of linear earthworks visible. The earthwork banks occupy the site of two former orchards located either side of Upper Hayne Farm. The orchard banks to the west of the farm are northwest to southeast aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.06 hectares. Those to the east of the farm are north to south aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.11 hectares. The earthworks are situated on gentle north facing slope. The earthworks are most clearly visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
