A possible extraction pit of between post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the west of Goodleigh. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 65m in length by 43m in width and is bisected by a stream. The site of an orchard is depicted here on the Parish Tithe map of approximately 1838-48, the orchard likely being established here following the abandonment of the extraction pit. This association of extraction pit later occupied by an orchard has been a reoccurring theme throughout this project. The extraction pit is clearly visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
