A possible extraction pit of between post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the southeast of Goodleigh. The irregular shaped earthwork measures approximately 42m in length by 19m in width and is bisected by a stream. A copse is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, the copse likely being established within the earthwork sometime after its abandonment. The possible extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
