Extractive workings of between medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork cuttings and pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards, to the northeast of Abbey Wood. The northern of the two features is visible as an irregular shaped earthwork which has been cut into the moderate northwest facing slope. Only the working face of these cuttings have been transcribed, although since the full extent of these workings likely extends further to the southeast this area has been included within the monument polygon. A sub-oval shaped earthwork pit, which measures approximately 28m in length by 22m in width, is located to the southeast of these workings. The earthworks are clearly visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
