Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A possible former extractive pit of unknown, but probably post-medieval to early 19th century date was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in early 2016 as an earthwork cut into the north-west facing slope of the Otter valley, north of Hale farm, Honiton parish.
The purpose of the pit is unknown but several old marl pits are depicted in this area on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map and a similar function for this relict pit is probable. The earthworks do not match any quarry or extractive pits depicted in this precise location on the historic map and it had therefore probably passed out of use prior to the 1880s.
