A former extractive pit of unknown, but probably post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in early 2016 as an earthwork pit cut into the south-west-facing slopes north of Middle Northcote Farm, Honiton Parish. The pit is roughly oval or sub-rectangular in shape measuring approximately 50 by 24 metres in size.
It is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map and probably therefore ceased use prior to the 1880s. It corresponds to a field enclosure depicted on the earlier Tithe Map for Honiton parish; this might support the interpretation that the pit had influenced the field boundaries in the early 19th century. However, the pit might have passed out of use some time prior to this time.
