Former field boundaries of probable post-medieval date were visible as narrow earthwork banks and ditches on aerial photographs of the 1940s and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on the south-facing slopes overlooking the River Otter, Luppitt Parish.
The earthwork banks were up to 5 metres wide, with those north-west of Slade’s Copse possibly flanked by a narrow ditch on the west side. The relict earthworks possibly abut the boundary of Slade’s Copse and to fall within and respect the surrounding extant field pattern, which is probably of post-medieval date.
The banks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map of the 1880s-1890s or the Tithe Map for Luppitt, and were probably therefore removed prior to the 1840s.
