Several curvilinear earthwork ditches, circa 3 metres in width, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards. They seem to originate at a field boundary immediately to the north of Hasland Farm, and run broadly along the contour, dropping just over 10 metres over a 165 metre length. They are interpreted as field gutters of a catchmeadow system of post-medieval or 19th century date, and may have functioned as an ‘integrated ‘system that distributed manure along with water across the hillslopes. It is possible that these features had previously been interpreted as cultivation terraces recorded as MDV43725.
