Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Three irregular earthwork pits, between 34 and 60 metres in maximum visible extent, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and aerial photographs taken from the 1940s onwards. They are interpreted as extraction pits and the place names ‘Lime Pit Close’ in plots 797 and 828 on the Tithe map (MDV47306 & MDV47314) indicate the type of material that was probably being extracted in this area. One corresponds to an area of scrubby ground depicted on the Tithe map, suggesting that they were probably disused by this point. The pits may have supplied the nearby Tolcis Lime Works (MDV49629).
