A small area of parallel earthwork banks was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on the south-east facing slopes below Lower Shaugh Farm, overlooking the River Otter. Enclosed on the north-east and south-east sides by relict banks of possible medieval to post-medieval date (recorded separately), the banks cover a triangular area of circa 450 square metres. Such banks were made to improve drainage and soil depth for fruit tree planting in traditional orchards. It is probable that the orchard was originally larger than the visible earthwork evidence suggests, extending to the south and west, but that it was cleared during an episode of field boundary reorganisation at some point prior to the 1840s.
