Two roughly oval earthwork pits, between 10 and 62 metres in maximum visible extent, are visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and aerial photographs taken from the 1940s onwards. They are not depicted on the historic mapping, suggesting that they were probably disused by the late-19th century. An additional area of extraction may have been located in the southern part of what is now Whitehall Woods; the ground surface is obscured by the tree canopy in the aerial imagery, but lidar-derived images indicate that the edge of the scarp appears to have been cut into for a distance of 220 in two plots of land. This area is depicted as woodland on the Tithe map, and extraction probably pre-dated the mid-19th century.
