A former extractive pit of unknown, but probably post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in early 2016 as an earthwork pit cut into the south-east-facing slopes east of Lower Shaugh Farm, overlooking the River Otter, Luppitt parish. The pit is roughly rectangular in shape measuring approximately 65 by 22 metres in size. It is not depicted as a quarry on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, although a small area of rough ground or scrub is symbolised in this location, and probably therefore ceased to be used some time prior to the 1880s.
