Full description
Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.
This area was probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields

A possible former field boundary was visible on digital images derived from lidar data as a curvilinear earthwork bank on the east facing slopes to the east of Whitehall Farm overlooking the River Otter, Luppitt parish. The subtle earthwork is visible for circa 145 metres and measures up to approximately 10 metres wide, but may have been spread by ploughing. The earthwork falls within a wider field system that has been characterised as probably medieval in origin and might therefore be of medieval to post-medieval date.
