Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A possible former extractive pit of unknown function and probably post-medieval to 19th century date was visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2006 and digital height data from 1998 to 2014, as an earthwork pit cut into a west facing slope to the south of Barber’s Farm, Beacon.
The pit is roughly circular in shape and measures approximately 40 metres in diameter. No quarry or extractive pit is depicted in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map or Tithe Map for Luppit. This supports the interpretation that the extractive pit had passed out of use prior to the early 19th century.
