Summary
Possible extraction pits of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on west facing slopes to the northwest of Claypits Covert. This record has been recorded as a child record of MDV114110, which was created following a walkover survey carried out in 2016 associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn.

Bluesky International, 2016, LiDAR DTM data (0.5m resolution) Blackdown Hills and East Devon AONBs: 3 transects, LIDAR ST2005 Bluesky International DTM 30-APR-2016 & 04-MAY-2016 (Cartographic). SDV359714.
The extraction pits are visible as earthworks.

Possible extraction pits of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, on west facing slopes to the northwest of Claypits Covert. The cluster of earthworks vary in shape from oval to irregular and measure between 11m to 48m in length, although the two larger earthworks to the south were of less certain origin than those to the north and east. The earthworks are located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded during this survey and from a walkover survey carried out in 2016 associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. This record has been recorded as a child record of MDV114110, which was created following this walkover survey. The earthworks are not clearly visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey.
