An extractive pit of probable post-medieval to 19th century date was visible as an earthwork on the higher west-facing slope of the Otter Valley, north of Hayne Pit, Upottery parish, on aerial photographs and digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
The pit is roughly triangular in shape and measures circa 35 metres by 30 metres in size. There is no quarry or earthwork pit depicted in this location on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or the Tithe Map for Upottery, supporting the interpretation that the extractive pit had passed out of use prior to the 1840s.
