A possible extraction pit of between post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1982 and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Wellsprings Farm. The elongated shaped earthwork measures approximately 56m in length by 15m in width and appears to have been cut into the side of moderate southwest facing slope. A number of clay pits are depicted in the vicinity here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, which gives good indication as to the nature of this earthwork. It is also located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded during this survey and from a walkover survey carried out in 2016 (MDV114110) associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn.
