An irregular earthwork pit, 30 by 35 metres in maximum extent, is visible on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014 and on aerial photographs taken from 1947. It broadly corresponds to an area of trees depicted on the late-19th century mapping. It seems most likely that the earthwork is the remains of a post-medieval or early modern extraction pit that had ceased use and become scrubbed up or wooded by the late-19th century.
