Possible extractive workings of between post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the north of Courtmoor Farm. The irregular shaped earthworks cover an area which measures approximately 86m in length by 67m in width, on moderate northwest facing slope. The earthworks are visible as a series of subtle undulations, with faint traces of a cut edge to the east. A number of clay pits are depicted in the vicinity here on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map, which perhaps gives some indication as to the possible nature of these earthworks. They are also located in an area where numerous extraction pits have been recorded during this survey and from a walkover survey carried out in 2016 (MDV114110) associated with the A30/A303 improvement works between Honiton and Devonshire Inn. The earthworks should, however, be viewed with some caution and it is possible they are of natural origin, the result of slumping for example.
