An oval shaped earthwork depression circa 30m by 25m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depression approximately correspond with an 'Old Marl Pit' depicted on the First and Second Edition OS maps and as an earthwork thereafter. The pit is visible as a pond on aerial photographs dating from the 1940s and on the modern mastermap. The plot is recorded as 'Pitland' in the Tithe Survey. The earthwork is interpreted as a marl pit of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that ceased extraction by the late 19th century and subsequently established as a pond.
