Extraction pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1982 onwards, to the east of Preston Farm. The larger of the two earthworks to the north is irregular in shape, measures approximately 71m in length by 32m in width and appears to have been cut into the side of a moderate northwest sloping hillside. It is possibly made up of several inter-cutting pits. A much smaller sub-oval shaped earthwork, approximately 16m in length by 12m in width, is visible to the immediate south. The earthworks remain visible on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016.
