Possible tree-planting banks of a former post-medieval to 19th century orchard are visible as a series of linear earthwork banks on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, at Rookery Farm. An orchard is depicted here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s. The earthworks, on which the fruit trees were established, are northeast to southwest aligned and occupy an area of approximately 0.08 hectares of gentle northwest facing slope. The orchard occupies the site of former clay pits, the orchard likely being established within the earthwork pits following their abandonment. The orchard banks are not visible on aerial photographs or other digital images made available to the survey.
