Extraction pits of likely post-medieval to 19th century date are visible as earthwork pits on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the east of Charleshayes Farm. The irregular shaped earthworks are located either side of a road and measure approximately 80m in length by 20m in width (eastern pit) and approximately 37m in length by 29m in width (western pit). Clay pits are depicted in the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of these earthworks.
