An extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the southwest of Charleshayes Farm. The quadrant shaped earthwork measures approximately 23m in length by 19m in width and is bound to the north by an historic field boundary and to the west by a road. The extent of the earthwork is symbolised here on the Parish Tithe map of approximately 1838-48, so clearly predates this time. Clay pits are also depicted in the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of this earthwork.
