Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any depicted field boundary.
Ordnance Survey, 1996, OS/96570, OS/96570 V 49 08-MAY-1996 (Aerial Photograph). SDV359489.
A curvilinear earthwork ditch was visible.
Turner, S.C., 2005 - 2006, Devon Historic Landscape Characterisation Mapping (Cartographic). SDV349122.
The relict earthwork is visible within an area probably first enclosed with hedge-banks during the later middle ages. The curving form of the hedge-banks suggests that earlier it may have been farmed as open strip-fields.
Next Perspectives, 2010, Next Perspectives PGA Tile Ref:, Next Perspectives APGB Imagery ST1907 04-MAY-2010 (Aerial Photograph). SDV356215.
The earthwork ditch remains visible.
Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.
A curvilinear ditch was visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards, on the south-east-facing slopes to the south-east of Glebe Farm, Upottery parish.
The visible earthwork does not correspond to any boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Upottery. It does, however, fall within an area in which the field pattern has been characterised as probably medieval in origin.
The earthwork is therefore interpreted as a field boundary of medieval to post-medieval date that was removed prior to the 1840s.
The earthwork remains clearly visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2010.
