A possible extraction pit of likely post-medieval to 19th century date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards and on digital images derived from lidar data captured in 2016, to the east of Harvest Wood. The oval shaped earthwork measures approximately 26m in length by 21m in width and is located in an area where numerous similar such features have been recorded during this survey. Clay pits are also depicted in the vicinity here on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s, which gives a good indication as to the likely use of this earthwork.
