The pit approximately corresponds with an area depicted as rough ground.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any depicted pit. Trees marked in this location may be associated with the former pit.

A probable former extractive pit was visible on aerial photographs of 1947 onwards as an irregularly shaped earthwork approximately 35 by 15 metres in size on the south-west-facing slopes below Buckeshayes Farm, Upottery parish.
The visible earthwork might correspond with an area of rough ground depicted on the Tithe Map for Upottery. It does not correspond with any features depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map, with the exception of a row of trees, supporting the interpretation that the pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
The pit probably survives as an earthwork but is largely obscured by tree cover on the most recent images available to the survey.
