Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

A probable former extractive pit approximately 30 metres across was visible on aerial photographs of 1947 as an irregularly shaped earthwork adjacent to a track on the west-facing slopes below south of Hillend Farm, Luppitt parish.
The visible earthwork did not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or Tithe Map for Upottery. This might support the interpretation that the pit had passed out of use prior to the mid-to-late 19th century.
The pit is visible as a slight earthwork on aerial photographs of 1982 but is obscured from view on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
