Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2016-2018, The Blackdown Hills AONB and East Devon River Catchments National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV359463.

Two probable former extractive pits were clearly visible on aerial photographs of 1982 as roughly oval earthworks approximately 35 metres across, on the south-west-facing slopes at Barber’s Farm, Beacon, Luppitt parish.
The visible earthworks did not correspond with any pits depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map or Tithe Map for Luppitt. This might support the interpretation that the pits had passed out of use prior to the mid-19th century.
The pits were visible as subtle earthworks on recent images derived from aerial photographs of 2014.
